Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. When she was just five and moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled at an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing, dancing and acting. By the age of ten she had appeared and played the lead in various Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the movie version to J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was filmed for the first time in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's first film on the screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film was also the film that was most popular of 2001. The opening weekday and weekend the sales were record breaking. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British publication, has praised Emma for her exceptional performance. Emma was awarded five nominations for her outstanding performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of the Film.
